British / Zulu War of 1879 Chess set
Description:
Our British / Zulu War set is currently our most detailed set
offered. It is also the most labor intensive set we have ever made.
Over 70 hours of work is invested into this chess set and much
research was done to depict historic details pertaining to 1879
British and Zulu themes.
Red Oak is exclusively used on this set. Brass handles, hinges, and
corner trim are used to decorate and protect the set. A custom
designed clasp pole is used to keep the lid locked down and the four
sides of the box are wood burned with dates, Zulu words, British
flags, and weapons used in the war. Miniature weapons also decorate
the pieces. Detailed wood burning is used to decorate the box, as
well as each playing piece. We also hand painted the images under
the lid, as well as the playing pieces. Many different materials are
used to decorate the pieces such as: feathers, leather, deer fur,
twine, sinew and steel. Wood stain and a clear coat protects the
wood and adds even more beauty to the set. The storage compartment
is felt lined to protect the pieces. Each chess set is signed and
dated, with wood burning, by the master craftsman for authenticity.
Each set is hand crafted and truly one of a kind. The box measures
approximately 12 x 12 x 3 inches.
Chess pieces - sizes range from approximately 2 3/4 inches for the
king to 1 1/2 inches for the pawns.
All colored pieces are individually hand painted. Even the smallest
of details are hand crafted. Below are more pictures of this one of
a kind chess set.
